Weird knocking noise......

Post by gazmangti »

Hi all,
I have noticed recently that when I accelerate hard about 4000rpm+ the car will make a weird knocking noise. I can be felt through the steering wheels and pedals.

Sounds and feels like going over loads of small speed bumps on a slip road.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

You should probably check your tracking or wheel balancing isnt out as well.

My steering wheel was shaking like mad when i hit 70+ but now the tracking and wheel balancing has been done it is all good again with no vibrations.

My wheels have been balanced but its still doing it.

Its just one of those things that you can spend ages looking for. I will just wait till what ever it is breaks then fix it.

A possible failing or loose engine/gearbox mount?

I've got exactly the same problem with my polo. Its a w reg gti. Everytime i get over 80 mph it starts shaking the dash and sounds the same as what yours has got. I got the wheel alignment and the wheels balanced tday but its still got the same problem! Have you found out what it is???

After tracking and balancing as previously said I'd look at wheels bearings, engine mounts and CV joints.

Ok cheers. Have checked wheel bearings and cv joints seem fine too. I'll check the engine mounts then. Do i need to take it to a garage for that or can it be done easily? Thanks :)
