Is removing the gearbox quite an involved job? Is there a guide anywhere on how to do it?

lately I'm really struggling to get it in first, it's crunching into reverse and 5th is whining. I was tempted by some guys on ebay who do the whole job for £445, anybody used them? only thing is I think you need to take your car to them.... in Dartford.

what a relief! took it to the garage and it was just the Gearbox that needed adjusting, cost just £12.50 to put right for labour, running sweet now!

im on 52,000 miles and im on the first gearbox. At the moment its ok but sometimes i cnt put it into first gear or second gear and it always pops out on reverse, you lot reckon its on its way out

Well, I think mine is the worse by far..
Whining in EVERY gear, I struggle to get it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and reverse. Crunches in second - Badly. Clutch is slipping too

The box really needs taken out of the Polo and skipped! I have no idea anywhere round the Cumbria that 'rebuild' or re-con gearboxes... Is it worth recon'ing this one?? Or buying one off eBay?
It's been like this for about a month or so now, just haven't the pennies to sort it. Exhaust needs to come first.

Also, question, will the above affect power??

i think it does affect the power, i started regreting by gettin the gti its just started giving problems everyweek now the pedal box is being funny against me

I was sure the time had come for mine, check with your garage to see if your clutch needs adjusting, if it does it's a cheap fix if it doesn't then at least you know exactly what the problem is.

What du mean exactly by adjusting the gearbox?

sorry not the gearbox, the clutch, not sure really, he just said it needed adjusting a bit, just charged me 1/2 an hours labour and it's running fine now, clutch is lighter and no probs getting into gears, 5th still whining a little though around 2000 and 3000 revs

Oh the clutch. That takes about 30 seconds! It should have lifted the biting point a little?

yeah that's right, I'm well happy with it now, it's also sorted out the problem of the gearstick jerking forward in fourth.
