normal reading on a tempreture gauge????

Post by kyle_mk3 »

as above really, having problem with my engine as i said in my previous topic, thermostat was fooked after testing it in a pot of boiling water...so bought a new thermo. still no joy, then noticed the control unit for the fan/radiator was a bit knackered 2 causing fan fan not to react so got tht part aswel and tried it (without the thermo) and the engine seemed to work fine, then installed the thermo and it went back to not reacting!!! GRRRRRRRR

any ideas?

and what the temp the engine should be at normally?

cheers Kyle

90C it should sit at spot on.

Thermostat should open at 84C. Fan cuts in at 94 and 102 i beleive.

Alex is right, it should sit dead in the middle of the gauge at 90C

noticed 2day that the top hose is boiling and the bottom one is stone cold, so went out and bought a new water pump which should hopefully solve the problem!

That doesnt sound like the pump entirely. Thats your thermostat seized closed, or your rad has a blockage.

Fingers crossed. It makes sense to do the belt whilst the pump is out - saves the need to do it in future. Ensure you get the tensioner replaced too as these have a habit of going!
