Service..

Post by turkpolo »

I went down to my nearest vw dealer to get it serviced and ask how much would the damage be. They asked £260 for a service :| Is this a reasonable price or isit a waste??

Well I paid £240 for a full service, cam belt and water pump so yes. But that wasn't a main dealer. Maybe try to find a good independent garage to get it done at.

My local VW garage (Walkingshaw, Cumbria) sent me through a letter the other week and because I'm a 'valued customer' they offered me a service and MOT for £129 or a service alone for £99...
So I obvioulsy took the offer up and it's booked in to be done at the end of next month. Whoop whoop.

I would never pay £260 for a serivce. What a rip.

Not a GTi but I just paid £120 for MOT & service at a local VW specialist. Filters and spark plugs not changed though as new.

But still thought it was pretty good.

pfft.. full service is such a waste of money! All you really need to do is have a change of oil twice a year. Obviously oil change and filter can be done yourself or get an oil service done at Kwik Fit as they have wicked prices - oil service with Mobil ESP and filter only £40,.. you cant even buy the ESP for less than £40 and thats without new filter too or the hassle of spilling hot oil all over yourself..(let someone else do it for you, haha)

Always have good fresh oil and the occassional plug into VagCom, and knowing how your car drives to know if wheel balance etc is out, can always get free safety checks done too.. and thats all you need,.. well thats my opinion anyway and my lil car is running a-ok :)

LOL... Im the exact oposite... I do an oil change/plug/filter service every 8-9 thousand miles..... and whilst its in my garage, take off all the wheels, jack the car up and inspect EVERYTHING....lol.... That way I can happily drive like a spaz and know that the car will keep going until the next service....

By inspecting things so often you can anticipate when stuff is going to fail and budget accordingly...

..or by not driving like a complete loon and ragging it around, you know that every morning when you jump in the car for work you know its not gonna suddenly drop to bits ;)

haha nah I rarely get anywhere near 8000 in a year, more like half that!! Oh dont get me wrong I inspect mine regularly, and when its on ramps all the discs n the works get checked out.. I just dont see the need to hand all my hard earned money over to do something that I can get done myself! Thats more what Im getting at :)

That's hefty! I paid less than £50 for oil, oil filter, brake fluid, 5l coolant, pollen filter, sump plug and fuel filter! And cost/will cost nothing to fit them.
