Well the time has come when my gearbox has gave up and crunches/I struggle to put it in every gear. Polo has 67k on the clock, and by reading up on this forum, sounds like its average miles for it to go?
Anyways, yesterday I took it to my local gearbox specialist, he took it out and said it was completely f****d.
So, he's quoted me £400 including VAT to recon the full 'box and would take him 3 days to do it.
Now I had a good crack with him and he said he didn't think the clutch was that bad, but considering the 'box will be out I would rather change it than it go in another thousand or so miles.
I've been emailing gsfparts since February about a price on a SACH clutch kit, and they said that if you're with a certain club you get discount. Can anyone enlighten me to which clubs these are??
Gearbox/Clutch - GSFparts...
Re: Gearbox/Clutch - GSFparts...
£400 sounds about the going rate for a full strip and rebuild...
And yes, whilst its out...replace the clutch and release bearing.....

Definitely get a SACHs kit whilst your at it. The kit from GSF includes everything, for under £100 also!
Buy a clutch cable from VW also. They're about £30, and replace that whilst your at it.
GSF except discount from clubpolo.

Just ordered the SACH clutch kit - £111.90 including delivery and a discount from the 'clio sport' club
The geordie man insisted I was a member lol. He said it should be with me by 5:30pm tomorrow, whoop. I'm so excited.
So yeah, recon is booked in for Tuesday next week, so instead of a weekly fuel bill of round about £45, I get a lovely bill of £400

Re: Gearbox/Clutch - GSFparts...
man we get shafted in ireland.
clutch cable cost me 70 euro and clutch kit sachs 3000 581 001 cost me 250 euro.
in all it cost me 550 euro incl mechanic to fit cable and clutch.
the oem pressure plate was knackered in it when i got it.
but i have to say its like driving a new car. clutch pedel is no longer like pressing the brake pedel anymore
