Fitting Coilovers, What's entailed?

Post by Tim_GTi »

Who's fitted their own coilovers on here?

Will be carrying this out soon on my mates 9N3 (vw_joe) for him.

I've fitted my own on my 6n2, so know the ropes.

Just wondering if there's any important things to look out for on the 9N3?

Cheers guys

i fitted mine myself, well my mate done it with me. check out my guide i made in the DIY section on here, i have tried to explain as best i can, the main thing you will need is the multi spline socket tool, which is an unusual tool to have, so make sure you have the right one of these first, (its for the bottom of the front strut where is slides into the hub bit)

Sorry to slightly off topic but I am going to fit a set to my 9n over the weekend. I have the mondeo drop link and am going to replace the top mounts.

What the other part of the top mount called?

Any way the car has done nearly 85K

Are new top mounts needed when fitting coilovers? I see alot of people talking about them, and when asking in my local motor factors about fitting mine, they said did I have the new top mounts or did they need to supply them.

I know people who have fitted without them and are OK, are they necessary??

Cheers for the guide Charlier and Brad. That's quite embarrassing as now I remember already reading that!

Brad - what size was the multi spline tool do you remember? And where did you get it from?

im not sure buddy, if you put your wheel on full lock you might be able to see it, its just around the back at the bottom of the strut, if i think on i will check my kit tommorow and tell you what size it is. i got mine from halfords, it was a set of about 7 of them, cost about £20-30
