Im hopeing that it just needs to learn all the new values. Will take it from another drive tonight and see how it goes. But I thought I was going to spank him as well.

according to parkers you should be leaving him even when the car was stock so you need to iva hook it up to somthing at vw to see whats up or ask J at more bhp as iv got a stage 1 from him and i can make type r's look silly

Dave... get it on the VAS at work .... and check for errors.... most that make you slow dont trigger any man lights.....

And get the tech to do a throttle reset for you...

Also just list your full spec again here ... so we might spot where hardware fitment "might" be wrong .... I often find leaks on cars that have had lots of tips, dvs fitted , etc...

And the VAS system should be able to tell the long term fuel trims.... and do this BEFORE resetting ecu or codes.....

Exactly, i wouldn't assume something is wrong with your car just because you struggled to keep up with another car that on paper you should beat. You have no idea what's under the hood of that thing. Especially if your car is feeling alot faster.

Get some solid times recorded (0-60 etc), and compare them with anyone on here who's had a stage 1 with J. The results won't be totally fair, as every car is different, but it may give you an idea.

Thing I know about some of these little light Pugs is that they can HANDLE really well... the way they can generate power quickly.. and nippily can shock many a sports car...

Dave ... you have more curves than bends where you are ???

Well I did another Polo 1.8T this morning .. yes working on a Sunday morning.. "dedication thats what you need"... and this time I took the car out myself..

First standard and recorded max air flow of 120 (ish) g/s which on a 1.8T equates (roughly) to 150 bhp... running approx 0.6 bar... nice sweet motor...

Load program... then out again... recorded max air flow of 160 (ish) g/s which equates (roughly) to 200+ bhp ... running peak 1.1 bar .... still lovely and smooth ... boost totally under control.... no excessive timing pull.. etc... just sweet....

Sometimes, it seems, making and keeping it so sweet makes it harder to tell the difference... between the powers.... I can make the software much different.... to make the car FEEL fast .... but its not so nice to drive and is actually often slower... whenever we make "the stronger feel" files then eventually the customer returns for something more civilised... I learn alot from the 30+ 1.8Ts we do each month ;-) and I've driven almost as many Polo 1.8T maps as Jeff has had new wheels... :-p

You also have to remember that we make programmes that are safe for the car ... but that is a really long story and its time for bed.... zzzzzzzzzz

Its funny you say a 106 gti.. I had a little race with my mate who has one, (and i have a stage 1 mapped gti).. he has had loads of work done to the engine (he's spent thousands!) reckons its 160+ bhp.. I beat him :D - by just a fraction mind... (80mph + i would leave him for dead) - Gotta remember those 106's are as light as feathers!! I will also add that my gti has 62k on the clock, so its well ran in!...

ps. i always knock the esp off when i want to have fun with other cars, it annoys me when i try to power round corners and the engine cuts down the power.

Well its defo faster now than when I raced teh 106. When I did have a little paly it was on a atraight road. And I was catching just not as quickly as I thought.

It will be comming in this week to do the bits J has sugested. But I think its now all ok.. And as above the 106 may have had some work or engine a gti-6 engine or somthing!

ANy ways I will need more power soon!

thats the biggest problem with making your car go faster .. you always want it to go faster and faster and faster.... its addictive...

call me sad ... but I'm sure I lose sleep over it ... dreaming of the big turbo... etc....

it was funny week last week .. doing 5 x Polo 1.8T GTI s ... just wierd..
