Quote for exhaust - yay or nay?

Got onto my local Powerflow dealer....45 miles up the road! Quoted me £390 for a full sport cat system (with hidden tailpipe and stock sound) and £60-£80 on top of that to fit my Raceland manifold to it. Do you reckon that's a bit expensive?

I just got my cat back powerflow the other week from my local powerflow dealer (Gates Tyres).. £249.99 it cost with hidden tail pipe. Sounds ok, think it was the same size pipe too...

£390 is really expensive IMO.

Does "sport cat" system mean you are having a new high-flow catalytic converter put in as well? That would explain the hike in price over what emma_88 paid. Cats aren't cheap!

Stock sound so as to keep it subtle I guess?

i guess so...just seems a lot of money to pay for an extra 2.7bhp!?

i agree with tom,

you'd be better off getting a custom ECU Remap for you car. 2 or 3 companies up and down the UK say you can go from 125bhp to 140bhp. for £300, thats a good ratio. whether or not thats car specific i dont know.

Yeh they say 'stock sound' but it never is, it'll just be a nice sutble raw. That's probably what I'd ask for if I was getting one.

With a sport cat that ain't bad mate. I'd try and wingle in the manifold fitting into that price also though. Can't justify £60-80 extra just to fit a different manifold and make the lamdba wiring longer whilst everything is already out.

Not really that bad of a price. A sports cat is a good alternative to a de-cat.

I paid £300 for a cat back with larger 50mm piping for better flow and a hidden tailpipe. I also specifically asked them to put the quietest they could do haha, and it still rumbles well to be honest

Only thing i would question would be the quote for fitting the Fanimold as its not that big of a job...

My full system from the engine back with a sport cat and raceland manfiold cost £550 from powerflow...so personally i think the quote you got is not bad and worth it. Mine was also done with 50mm piping for better flow

Cetainly my car has a deep burble at the back as standard, and that's what I want, it's still subtle. Plus I'd rather have the sound of the BMC than a loud exhaust.

You would need the system and a remap to get it to 140bhp imo

Yeah the Re-Map would only give it 9 to 12 BHP Max.

With a nice free flowing exhaust, Manifold, Re-Map & BMC it should be capable of 140+ BHP

Has anybody on here done all of the above and tested it on rolling road? It would be really interesting to see the results.

I think a couple with those exact mods have posted around 140bhp. I'd like to get my car to that before I sell. If I did keep it and had more money a few years ago I would of stuck with my original plan of throttle bodies and get a strengthened gearbox built

yes my old one was 139bhp...pretty nippy but a lot of money to be spending for very little gains

Notice much difference in performance with the extra BHP? in terms of acceleration?

not really....just pulled all the way through the revs, i did end up on my 3rd gearbox when i sold it though
