would parts from a normal MK3 fit into a g40 like gearbox and other parts?

Nope. Probably not, since most of them are a different PCD.

As for mk3 parts, I'd say that almost all of the parts will fit onto a G40, but things like brakes, gearbox, and suspension would be a waste of time, since you are just downgrading.

As far as body pannels, lights, controls etc etc, these will all fit.

I'd say that you would be best off having a donor car, if the price is right.

wants about 100 pounds for it! just like if anything dose go i haev a part! i cant really aford to be getting new parts!

Ford wheels wont fit as I think they are 108 x 4 pcd but the polo ones are 100 x 4.

its ok keeping spares and cars for parts, but you need plenty of space for them, and to be fair while the parts are interchangeable, may not be to the same design so if you fit them to a G40 it wont be as good a car. so the bits that are better on a G40 are and arnt on lower models are :-

engine
interior
suspension
front brakes
wiring loom
gauges

but some parts are identical:-

bodyshell
doors
tailgate
bumpers
rear brakes
driveshafts (they are different but near enough the same)
rear beam off a GT
5 speed gearbox off another model (but not a GT box)
the GT interior is the same but different fabric patterns
fuel pumps off a GT

so the nearest model to the G40 for spares is the GT, any other version and there probably wont be too much that you would use

gauges G40 goes up to 160mph, compared to standard 120mph. Not something to worry about, as the speedo's not exactly accurate at 3-figure speeds. GT and Genesis models have the rev counter the same as the G40

but some parts are identical:-

rear brakes I think the rear wheel cylinders are bigger on the G40? And GT and G40 models also have a rear brake bias controller which isn't on lesser models
driveshafts They're identical in thickness to standard ones. Not sure whether they're made of a different material, or whether the joints are different though. Nowt to worry about, people are putting well over 170bhp through standard Polo ones without problems.

5 speed gearbox off another model Early Mk4 16v Polos have the same gearbox, or an 8P gearbox (5-speed commonly found on 1.3CLs) offers similarly spaced ratios.

fuel pumps off a GT Or an NZ engined CL, it's only the inline fuel pump that's different - the others are the same. If you believe Haynes then even the inline pumps flow the same amount, but from personal experience I reckon the correct item is important.

The G40 spare wheel is also different, it uses a different relay for the ECU to non-GT/G40 models, blah blah blah.

Basically, if you've got the space to dump a whole car - then it may be worth keeping for spares if you can get it for Â£100. But bear in mind that parts will deteriorate over time, they're all secondhand and thus used - and that the essential bits are generally G40 specific. Maybe worth having if you've got the space and need the glass, panels or lots of trim bits, switches etc. and then scrapping it.
