Valve Steam Seals

Post by mckenzie »

Anyone had a problem with these? I think mine could be on there way out cars burning some oil not loads but a noticeable amount and does smell of burning oil although doesn't smoke. Any ideas on a price for these being replaced?

Is it just the smell of burning oil that is leading you to suggest they are fooked?..... Do you get a lot of black sooty smoke from the exhaust? Any oil in the water? Can you hear the valves rattling?

You WILL get a smell of hot oil if your breather system is blocked for whatever reason... might be worth checking that the pipe is clear (feeds into the airbox)...

The attual Stem seals don't cost much about £20 for the set of 16 from gsf car parts. I replaced mine when I snapped my cambelt and bent all the exaust valves.

You'll need to take the cambelt off so may aswell get that and the tensioners replaced at the same time.
