even faster TDi

Post by Ruan9n »

Hi guys!

As you know i'm from South-Africa. I have done some extensive mods on my 1.9tdi pd100.
I currently have a 63mm freeflow exhaust, BMC performance filter, pd160 intake, front mount intercooler, dimsport remap. Currently doing 110bhp and 350nm.

Am I missing something? Can I mod it for more power? AFAIK I have covered all the bases except for going bigger turbo. Any help from across the shores please :wink:

sorry I misinterpreted from KW to BHP :oops: My car was 100bhp standard and is at 150bhp at the moment or 110kw :lol:

I basically maxed out what my turbo can safely handle, going from 100-150bhp is a pretty aggro remap! So i'll have to look elsewhere other than remap or turbo. This is a problem :evil:

that makes sense now. Nothing to do with power but have you tired removing weight,

you could start with simple things like removing the spare wheel and if you can rear seats, or go and get some racing seats :)

As JB_UK said, weight plays an important role in how quick u can go from A to B.
Things you could do:
1. Remove back passenger seats;
2. Remove spare wheel(as said before)
3. Carbon Fibre Bucket Seats;
4. Remove door cards;
etc......
End of the day the car would look more like a TRACK car which I dont think u want it to be!
With more power you would eventually end up getting a new clutch kit and flywheel as the standard might not be able to handle extra power.

Also another mod you could do is invest in a BIGGER TURBO :lol:

a go faster stripe. make sure its straight though.

other than that stop messing about and give turbo dynamics a call requesting an uprated pd150 turbo. :twisted:

Add PD130 injectors and a GT17V turbo off a PD130 and you should be able to achieve 190+ BHP after a remap. You'd need an uprated clutch though once you're going past 250 - 260 ft/lbs of torque (which you will with those mods :) ).

After that, getting more power is gonna end up costing a lot, you'll be looking at hybrid turbos, even bigger injectors and water/methanol injection. I'd be happy with circa 200 BHP with 300+ ft/lbs of torque and still being able to get 50+ MPG.

Also, sort your brakes out whilst you're at it if you haven't already. i.e. Polo GT (well here anyway, dunno about SA, but the model with 130 BHP) front hubs and 288mm discs at the least.

Ash :)

Thanks guys, yeah I have removed the sparewheel as well already :lol:

@ K.I.T.T. True I have already maxed out what my pd100 turbo can handle safely, I could get more but then it wont last. I have a mate with a pd160 turbo off a ibiza cupra tdi. It makes 155kw 500nm :shock: :shock:

Just got a price yesterday for a pd130 turbo- quite cheap...roughly 430pounds for you guys.
Gonna be looking into this and get my software updated, then I should be doing 180hp round abouts.

GT turbos are garrett iirc, we get the german spec KKKvnt17v turbo here which is the pd130 one

I'd try and avoid the KKK ones if possible...they're fitted to Skoda Fabia VRS over here, and it's quite common for their owners to replace them with the equivalent Garrett unit as the KKK ones are erm...somewhat unreliable (apparently...their words, not mine). I believe even with a new turbo, you wouldn't get much past 170 BHP with stock injectors mate :) With the mods you have, (FMIC, exhaust, intake) I'd seriously consider getting a second-hand set of either PD130 or PD150 (same part no.) injectors, and you should be good for 195ish BHP. The stock PD100 injectors can only fuel till around 165ish BHP I think.

Ash :)

Sorry to highjack the thread, but if the car is already a PD130, Would it be possible to do a direct swap with a modified PD150 turbo? Keeping ll the pipework and injectors the same?

yes, thats what the 230-240bhp people do with there vrs.
what i plan on doing to mine. buy a pd150 turbo, and get it uprated to handle like 300bhp.

think its a bolt on jobbie, not to sure about it though.

Well I've had a little browse on the TDi forum, some of the stuff they talk about is way over my head. But from what O've been able to pick up is that 150 is interchangeable with PD130.

So what kind of power gains people looking at, if they have:
PD150 turbo(Modified)
PD160 Air intake w/ Green air filter
Cat back exhaust system
Costum Re-map?
