Driver's Door Lock

Post by poloboyben »

Having a bit of a problem with my door lock on the drivers door. It has always been quite stiff, but yesterday after putting the key in to open the door, the key will not turn right to open the door. I have no experience with locks so all i did was sprayed wd40 into the lock which didnt affect it. Anyone know what the problem might be? and how i might mend it?

Cheers

i had the same problem it went all stiff and finally i couldnt use it.
but i was told that the lock may have been tampered with.
or it may be that the locks have a fault in them and they used that as an excuse?
either way the barrel in ur lock may be out of place or may have colapsed hence y its stiff etc.
u need to get it changed i think.

AFAIK, the lock barrel is part of the handle, so you'd have to take the handle out. Which, btw, is very easy. After taking the handle out, you can probably see the lock barrel and repair/replace it.

Procedure:

Open door.

Look towards the handle, on the door jamb side.

Notice the Torx 40 (45?) screw.

Take out screw.

Slide handle towards frontend of the car, about an inch, max.

Pull out handle.
