COOPERPAUL'S GTI - lowered and new wheels

Post by cooperpaul »

hello , been a member on here for a bit, since i bought my gti. originally wanted a lupo gti, but due to money have to change my mind, so i started looking a the polo gti and found a really good condition one for £2800 with 68000 miles on the clock so i bought it, best decision i have ever made.

what it looked like when i bought it, completely standard. the wheels had the common lacquer peal on the rims. and they were just in a general bad condition

so the first thing i did was sort the wheels out, i got them powder coated a dark grey which i am really happy with.

next little thing i did was to debadge the back of the car the polo and gti badge.

i also got a new gti badge for the grill and got some red piping around the grill.

about two weeks after i bought the car i ordered some pressed plates, ordered them with no with no band on, but when they arrived the front came with a GB on it and the rear came with a D on it, not happy, rang them up and there gonna send me the correct ones. i have put them on because i waited a long time for them so i decided to put them on anyway.

and yesterday i received my new door cards, the car originally had the ones with red material, but i wanted the ones with black material so they got put in today, looks better.

and the thing im most excited about is these

they arrived on friday and are getting put on on tuesday and i cant wait, drop it about 80mm all round i think

so thats about it for now got a few more plans just got to wait for more funds, heres a few more pictures i took after droping my girlfriends off at uni today

Hi Paul, welcome to the forum.

Nice polo you've got there, never seen a black one with anthracite wheels... Not sure if I love them or hate them. Think it will look miles better when it's been dropped.

Keep us updated!

Welcome to the site mate! Looking good.

I too am not sure what to make of the wheels. With the tyres dressed and the APs I think they'll look alot nicer 8)

Wow don't hitting them just yet! AP coilovers have little allen key locks, you've got to unscrew them first before you can move the adjustor.

It's this circled in grren here:

It takes a small allen key, can't remember what size. loosen that then you'll be good to go 8)

Have you cleaned the thread right out before trying to move them?

Grit easily cakes the threads, you've gotta spray WD40 all over it and wipe the thread clean before moving then, to stop dirt getting between the threads and the adjustors and them seizing.

Once you've done this, trying getting some length on the C spanner for more leverage.

think i have it how i want it now, got my coilovers fitted but will be replaced soon, as the fronts done adjust, but it droped about 50mm all round right now, got rid of the grey wheels which are now up for sale if you want them, £250. picked up some borbet a's on saturday after a 2 hour drive which was ment to be a 45 minute one, dam A1. bought them off a guy on edition38, tyres have a bit of strech on them.

really like it now think its pretty much how i want it, gonna get the arches rolled and lower another 20mm. lots of pictures for you to have a look at

I had the same problems with my ap's. They seized before I even put them on the car.
I took a steel pipe on the end of the c spanner to adjust them. Once they are set I would leave them though..

Car looks mint btw

LOVE IT, Just the way i want to make my red gti look. I'm thinkin to refurb the original rims, silver lip and graphite (anthracite) inserts but i'm also in two minds about the refurb. Do u think this refurb will look any good? In need of opinions....

I love them Borbet A's, u are one lucky guy, how much did they cost you and will they fit on a standard car which isnt lowered?

Also what size and fitment are the wheels?

If you ever are to sell your own borbet a's how much would u want for em?

thanks mate
