Had a new windscreen fitted by Autoglass as there was a crack in the glass. The guy snapped the scuttle panel fitting the new screen but they are coming back to replace it!

I have noticed on the new screen there is a gap all the way around, the largest gap being in the top side corners. I cant remember if the original had a gap or if there was some sort or rubber seal before.

Could someone with an original windscreen please take a picture of your the top corners either side to show to gap between the glass and bodywork.

No one? Even a picture from a camera phone will do! They are coming back to replace the scuttle panel so if I can get a picture to compare before they come back it would be very helpfull.

Between the top of the glass and the body work there should be some rubber on the underside of the glass.

I think that this has been a common problem for people who get the front or rear screen replaced, its usually just a nagging doubt, so for those of us yet to need to change the screens, remember to take quite a few pictures before handing your car in! (I hope I remember to do that as I'm also someone will end up having some nagging doubts)

Thanks for the picture. Does that rubber seal go down the sides of the windscreen too?

I did ask when they changed the screen but the autoglass guy said the gaps there to get the screen out and I couldnt remember what it was like before.

Good idea RUM4MO about the pictures. I should have taken pictures or checked the fitment of the original before the work was done.

Not the best pics as it is dark outisde but you can see the gap along the top and the sides. There is no rubber seal.

why does it look like there is something missing .... wish I still had my Polo I'd be out there looking... trying to think back to when I've polished the car... usually you are careful on the pillars so not to get polish on the rubbers that surround the screen ???

maybe not that relevant but i just checked my beemer and that has a rubber that fits neatly around the edge of the glass ..

Autoglass insist there is no rubber trim on the new Polos. Just need someone with a 9n2 to check is theirs has a trim and if so could you please take me a picture of the top and sides.

Chewy is yours a 9n or 9n2?

there is no rubber between the windshield and the car. the new polos have the windshield just fitted there.

I have a 9n but the screen is the same in the 9n3.

I work for autoglass and from that pic it looks like the screen in missing the rubber encapsulation from it.

I would take it to your nearest autoglass branch and go in and ask them to have a look at it.

Well I've looked at my wife's 52 Polo and it does has that black rubber band/trim/etc all the way round to finish off the screen and probably hide any messy bonding adhesive, but I've looked at a 56 Polo and it did not have anything to cover up this area - so the messy bonding adhesive is showing. Now my wife's 52 Polo is still on its first screen - but I can't vouch for the 56 Polo that I show. I also saw another Polo - a 54 one but that one was black - so not easy to check up on without drawing attention to myself!

I have found the same. Seems since 2005 they dont have the rubber trim and have a small gap all the way around.

They came to change the scuttle panel today but couldnt do it so are going to order another new screen and fit a new screen and scuttle panel on monday.

I am not too sure that's true I fit the same screen in both the 9n and 9n3, with the rubber encapsulation around it.
