hey there guys
as some of u no, i have made myself an induction kit out of mk3 golf parts! this is all good, however, i did come across a few problems with the job!
to fit the new inlet (bit which sits on top of the injector) u need to remove the three studs which held on the old air box (the round, pancake style one). however, when i came to do this, we couldn't remove the studs! now there is a problem!
after a lot of hard thinking, i had an idea of making up some bolts which had a drilled and tapped hole in the end which would screw onto the existing studs. this also means opening out the holes in the new golf inlet which means taking out a sleave which is in the holes!
it all now fits fine and works a treat (but has a little bit of teething problems with the hot air feed vaccum! no idea wots going on ther)
now i have had some interest in the induction kit, but not everyone has access to a mill and a lathe which u need to produce the kit!
so basically, i was wondering how many people are interested in having an induction kit and if enough interest is made, i would be willing to help produce it!
by the way, i'm taking it off this weekend for the MOT, so i'll get some pics for ya!

I've got a 1.3CL with the single-point injection set-up. I'd certainly be interested... I've been tryign to source a decent filter/induction system, but with no luck so far.
I'f you send me some pictures of the parts that you're using, I'll try and track some down at the local breakers. The local breakers turnsaroudn quite a few Veedubs, so I might be lucky and get what's needed for the kit.

We need to get about 10 people interested before this can go ahead. Another problem that we face is sourcing all those MK3 Golf airboxes. The cheapest option would be to aquire them from a scrapper, but this would obviously cause problems with availability etc, so what about doing a batch group buy with a supplier to get a discount.

I might be able to source some air boxes from my local to help out. Just get me some pictures up and I'll see what I can find. Oh and some instructions on how to quickly remove them *thumbs up*, I don't wana be at the scrappies for ages trying to get em of when it only take like five mins.

before deciding if an induction kit is necessary, you should be looking at the restrictions in the intake system. I havnt got a spi model, but if you look at the throttle body you will probably find that the bore is much smaller than the snout bit on the end of the standard air filter housing, in which case you wont realisticaly be able to flow any more air and a better be might just be to use a high flow airfilter in the standard housing, or take the snout off (to just before the hot/cold air flap) and use some tubing to get some air from behind the grill etc.
if you look at a 1L mk2 (like I've got) and remove the snout from the airfilter (roughtly the same as the mk3 item), you'll find that its got a 50mm bore. The carb has a 32mm bore, so already the airfilter housing can flow nearly 2.5 times what the carb can take, so its not the air intake and filter assembly thats the problem, but the carb.
