2006 1.4 75ps power?

Post by Stevez3 »

Hi - my first post and looking for help!
Have just picked up the above car from local VW dealer. It's done 20k, full history.
It seems to lack power. When rolling up to a junction, if I leave it in second, then accelerate, it takes an age to get going.
Also, at about 40mph in 4th, with three up, I put on the aircon and went to accelerate and it really just didn't want to go anywhere. I ended up having to change down. I wasn't looking for hard acceleration, just keeping up with the traffic would have been fine. Am I expecting too much?
Any help / comments would be appreciated.
Steve.

I'm afraid the 1.4 16V 75PS is not a ball of fire - the joke, for me at least is that my Passat 2.8 V6 gives out 193PS - so you would expect that a 1.4 with 75PS would be a torquey little devil as its max power output is low - WRONG! I seem to remember that VW used to get hammered for the poor fuel efficiency and low output power for its last (1990s) models of small engines, some things never change, I had sort of hoped that this engine would be quite tractable - NO! They do need to get wound up a bit > sort of try to keep it on the boil - but then fuel usage tends to increase!
