AP Coilovers v Weitec Hicon GT Coilovers?

Post by Gillen »

The AP coilovers are £380 delivered, the Weitecs are £500 delivered...I doubt the car will ever see a track...is it worth paying the extra £120 for the Weitecs???

I know changing to coilovers means a harder ride, but the GTI's standard suspension is VERY 'crashy' hopefully this won't be the case with coilovers.

Opinions and ideas of coilovers for <£500 would be appreciated :)

Cant compare to Weitec but the AP's are spot on mate, comfortable with no creaks or cracks! 8)

ive just put APs on from FKs and have have to say the APs compare quite well!

the only downside to APs is that it doesnt go low enough for my liking at the rear, and that the fact that theres no where to attach your abs lines on the strut, apart from that, i'd say go for it!

well i dont have weitec coilovers but i did have weitec lowering springs ive now swapped them for some AP coilovers ive dropped them nearly as low as they go and tbh it is low enough i am dropping them the full 2" left so ill get some pics up soon if you wana see the ride height of them atm check out my project thread

all in all im happy as with the ap they are comftable and like people have said for the money they are brilliant i picked mine up £180 5 months old and they have no leaks creaks or cracks

AP's are fine! Although as the 2 others above stated, the rears need the adjusters taken out and even then, they still arent that low enough. Does anybody know a way around it while we are on the subject? MK2/3 polo rear springs? do they fit?

I still can't make my mind up :\. Stupidly, the cheapness of the AP's is what's putting me off...You get what you pay for!?

That's very true, but then AP are a sub-division of Weitec, which is a sub-division of KW. So all in all, your getting a very good quality coilover kit at a brilliant price, £315 i think?

I do have a squeeky noise at the front rightside but that's just my bushes, although the noise went when it rained lol.

I would say AP deffo, and you'd save £180ish straight away...go figure :P
