I had my Polo 1.9 TDI 100 mapped with the Revo software after owning the car for only 3 days. The power delivery is very smooth and lasts longer throughout the rev range. The in gear performance of 3rd and 4th in particular is so much better the map has totally transformed the car, in 5th gear the car cruises very well indeed.
I was driving along the a43 behind a MK4 Golf GTi who looked very supprised when he couldn't get rid of my Polo from his rear view mirror. The feeling justified the cost of the map.
I will post up a rolling road map once I get the time to do one. I'm also interested in how much power its producing compared to the claimed gains.
It cost me £400 and was mapped by Fontain Motors.
with regards to the reduction in MPG.. i dont really know as i owned the car for only a few days before i remapped it however i can say regardless how the car is driven the average MPG has never dropped below 50mpg.
i had mine remapd by more bhp.. its alot faster and i get more mpg then i used to get bfore even when im flooring it... can keep up with alot of cars an all. Golf GT TDI's 140 No Problem
Hello, new Polo owner here. I'm picking up a Sport TDi 100 next weekend, and was considering getting a remap to turn the power and torque up a bit, but I have a couple of concerns that I was wondering if you could help me with.
How do you find the extra power goes with the 5-speed box? Do you find you keep looking for sixth?
About the suspension - the salesman tells me "sport" is just a trim level, and I won't have the sports suspension of the GT. Can the standard setup cope with the extra power?
I'm moving out of a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi 130, and while the Polo doesn't have the kick in the back of the Mondeo it feels lively enough, but more torque would certainly be nice.
a pd100 remapped to 130nhp would be faster than your old mondeo i'm sure.
as for the sport suspension, it's -15mm over the standard polo's.
i presume the -15mm supsension came on all 'sport' trims and the gttdi's and also the newer GTi's.
i have the 1.4tdi and it had -15mm suspension.
130bhp would definitely be faster- it's a smaller, lighter car. Also, my sister has a GT, so I'm familiar with the performance. That's one reason for considering a remap; I'll never here the end of it if her Polo is faster than mine. According to the spec details on the Parker's Price Guide web-site I do have sport suspension after all. Maybe I just misunderstood the salesman when he went on about how the suspension wasn't uprated, it was just lowered. I expected sport suspension to be upgraded shocks and springs, but it appears not.
Having slept on it, I'll probably wait a while till the manufacturer's warranty runs out.
Like pip said, Sport models have -15mm springs compared to the rest of the range. Regarding a sixth gear, it'd be nice but not essential. Bear in mind a remap won't alter the relaionship between RPM and speed in a certain gear, but will make in gear acceleration significantly quicker, and also the increased torque will make it possible to a little bit faster in higher gears as it will be able to pull harder and further into the redline.
Does the Polo have an overboost facility? The Mondeo had 243 lb-ft as standard, but if you mashed the throttle to the floor it would give another 15 lb-ft. Probably why my clutch was on its way out.
I did some investigating on Revo and discovered they have a representative in the centre of Glasgow, which is not a million miles from me. Something to bear in mind for the future. Has anyone ever tried to get a VW dealer to do an upgrade? I imagine that wouldn't invalidate the warranty.
No overboost...well technically anyway...If you're driving off boost and floor it, you'll sometimes get a boost spike for a fraction of a second but whether that'd have any effect on torque I'm not sure. i'd stay away from Revo...apparently their maps are quite aggressive at lower revs but tail off at higher RPMs and this isn't good for the clutch. I'd stick with Custom Code. Got my sport 1.4 TDi remapped last March and it hasn't skipped a beat. It's a nice map with smooth progresive power delivery. Regarding warranty, I wouldn't (didn't) worry...they can't actually detect it's been remapped from looking at the software.
Thanks for the advice. I would prefer a smooth power delivery across the rev range. A quick check on Custom Code shows an agent even closer than the Revo agent. The cost is a bit breathtaking, but I think it woul dbe worth it. Do you get your car serviced at a VW dealer? I would be a bit concerned at them overwriting the software when VW issues an upgrade. My Mondeo had more than one update in the time I had it.
Nah, I've not serviced the car at VW...it's only been in there for warranty issues. I use a local independent Bosch service centre. I doubt they'd try to reflash the ECU though...The PD100 engine was introduced atleast 8 years ago, they'd have ironed out any bugs long ago I'd have thought. Besides, on the most expensive service (4 year) all they'd do is engine oil/filter, air filter, brake fluid, cabin filter and cambelt...there's no need for them to do anything with the software.

I can assure you that REVO dont spike the map to make the figures, I also considered Custom Code as I to was rather concious of this however when I looked at the rolling road print out on the REVO site for this particular map it seemed to be pretty smooth.
