Hi there,
opened my hatch this morning after some heavy rain last night and discovered the carpet was wet. There was a line of dampness running along the left hand side of the boot, as you look into from the outside. Does the Polo have any well-known places where the water could be getting in? I only picked up the car yesterday so not best pleased. I'll be phoning the dealer tomorrow, and this post is basically me doing some background research in case they try to get smart. Thanks in advance for any info.

The rear lights and the 3rd break light are where I would start looking

you could check the rubber bit around the bottom of your areial base they often crack/split really easily when i got my car it was the first thing i changed cause it was corroded if thats split obviously water will get in, just a thought

Is it common for Polos to spring leaks? Mine is only 18 months old, so I'm a bit surprised at having this problem. I would have thought the car isn't old enough for anything to have perished or corroded. I went back to the dealer and dragged the salesman out to look at it and he assures me it's a warranty issue, hopefully being fixed this week. When we were poking around it looked like the problem was the nearside light cluster. This isn't a very promising start to my Polo ownership.

Light cluster being removed incorrectly causes the metal around where it is located to be damaged and this causes water ingress a very common fault as people don't take their time removing the cluster properely you need to lift the cluster slightly for it to over come the lip that holds it in place if you don't two things can and will happen 1. you will damage the metal and pull it out of shape and 2. break the light cluster both rendering the seal useless as not sitting correctly to stop water coming in. This is not covered under the warranty as it is not a fault of the unit but a fault of the person who removed it to change bulbs. If the garage does it for free brilliant.

Will be when a bulb has been changed, they have not tightened it up enough. I also had the same problem but on the o/s

Is this common? The dealer said they had to remove the rear bumber to replace a rubber grommet that had split. I asked them if that meant the car had been hit at some point but they said it didn't look like it; the grommet had simply perished.
