New polo owner. Help??

Post by Nathan3108 »

Hi, Ive just brought a 2000 MkV(Mk3F) Red in almost new condition that has been very well looked after by a nice old lady that im pretty sure never had it above 2000rpm lol. Its the 1.4 16v (75BHP) with just 68k miles on the clock, electric windows and sunroof, central locking etc. Im new driver having passed my test just 6 weeks ago, i want to make some modifications to it but nothing major, and would like some ideas?

Im not really into major body modifictions or performance either, perticuly as my insurance is already just over a grand, although that may be due to the fact that im only 22 and have a rather bad accident from last year and two other small ones, thanks to owning several motorcycles over the past 5 years, but small mods that just make you car stand out from the crowd and just a little nicer to look at and drive is what im looking for really.

Ive made my first changes that was to rip out the tape deck an put a decent sony sterio in and put some speakers in the parcel shelf as it only has speakers in the front doors and two front tweaker speakers.

First quick question im looking at some alloy wheels off the Golf MkIV(i think), the rim diamiter is 14inchs, Rim Width 5.5j, there 4 studs with stud diamiter 100, theres brand new tyres on there which are 205/60. Any body got a clue if these will fit???

Welcome to the site mate.

Are you sure the tyres are 205/60? that's awfully wide for a 5.5 wheel.

The wheels would fit no problem, but I'd look at getting some new tyres before they'd go on, for a better rolling radius and to lose the balloon look. 165/45s would go on nice 8)

205 is very very wide for a 5.5 wheel - tops on one of those would be 185 at a push 195

also if its off a golf mkiv its more than likely to be a 5 stud hub, so you would need an adapter to convert it to 4 stud for the polo

Nah it is four stud, but when i picked them up the 205 does give a bit of a balloon look so am looking at other size tyres. thanks for all your help.
