An update on the car, which is none midification wise or my own doing...

Some dumb witt decided to be a kind citizen and some how ram into my car last Monday. The pics may not show as it being out serious, but to me it is. Mind you, it was far worse when I seen the car - Must've been a rubber bumper on the other car, if that makes sense because the passenger side was covered in black vinyl stuff. That washed off though, and just left the crease and some scratches.

In comparison to the drivers side.. Notice the horrible corrosion on the wheels, urgh!




Currently running on my mates standard 14" Arosa wheels (Suits it very well I think, actually thiking of purchasing some!) as I'm in the process of refurbing mine, getting rid of the corrosion etc.
Polished it over the weekend and this is how she looks.

What did you use to get the Laquer off the rims? I have been having terible trouble getting mine to come clean!

Just read the whole thread, your GTI looks great emma.

Shame about the complete f***er that hit your car, makes me sick when people do that. Probably some Old age pensioner who shouldnt even be on the road in the first place.

Little SEAT wheels look dead smart and looks like your doing a good job with the BBS refurb. I have got to tackle my old BBS rims soon as well, they look identical to yours. Replaced mine with 16"s though so ill sell my 15"s when their done.

How long does it take roughly per wheel?

They are eh, my mate is keeping them for his winter wheels. I love them like. Even in them tires, think they're 60's, they look well.

I used Nitromors as stated in the DIY guide, it's awesome stuff. Just dab it on with a brush wait a couple of minutes, then take it off with a spatular thing - Here a link for some from halfords... http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165495

It's tooks me a fair few hours to get one wheel to look like that. I had one night where I was constantly on it for about 3 hours, lots of elbow grease is needed and sandpaper all the grades. I'm using Scotchbrite too with that Autosol metal polish, works wonders.

Autosol is a must have! I get through that stuff like toothpaste

I did my alloys myself and it is very satisfying. Just make sure you buy some good sealant if you intend to keep them on for winter use is my only advice! x

Vauxhall gasket What can happen if the sealant is no good?????? Will they corrod again??

Vauxhall gasket??! They won't corrode again. But what will happen is the now exposed lip will mark & stain come winter time with all the s**t on the road. Takes a while to get them looking like new again with polish, but well worth it

I meant Vauxhall gasket sealant, is that any good??

Thats perfect. The black vauxhall sealant is exactly what you need to seal the face to the rim itself.

cjwardy is referring to alloy wheel sealant, which protects the metal on the wheel in winter months from salt and other grime.

A few coats of that once they are sorted will keep them looking good over the winter

aye poorboys sealant is good. if you clean your wheels regularly though it doesnt last long, so i'd recommend putting a coat of hard wax on top of 2-3 coats or so of the poorboys stuff. then you'll be sailing
