2003 with no reversing lights

Post by Techncian »

Hi there one and all,

Is there anyone here who could help me solve my reversing lights issue. My polo's lights have stopped working and I'm struggling to find a fuse for them - bulbs have been checked. The fusebox card doesn't seem to suggest that there is a fuse for them, which I find hard to believe, so I was wondering if anyone knew which fuse/where else it is located.

Of course I am aware that it could be the reversing light switch. Which I also have no idea of its location.

Many thanks in advance,
Steven.

unlikely to be the fuse the switch is what goes wrong, not 100 % sure where it is located as mine was done under warranty I think it is on the gear box would need to check the haynes manual.

When mine went off it was becasue the wire when you select reverse had come loose and fallen off so just clipped it back on. The garage fixed mine though cos we were all out of ideas at the time.

Not 100% sure where to find it but would imagine youd have to take the gaitor off.

I have to concur with RITCHAT, on the gearbox around the selector cluster area is where they are normally - once again Haynes could be your friend now and in the future!

Any joy yet, I've looked in my Haynes book and it depends on which engine is fitted - ie different places on different gearboxes:- petrol engines 02T model gearbox its screwed into the front of the casing, same for 6 speed gearbox model 0A8, diesel engine 5 speed gearboxes type 02R have it mounted into the shift cover on the top of the gearbox (all quotes from Haynes).

On Investigation yesterday I have found that one of the wires that come out of the connector and goes into the loom has snapped/corroded away, thus making no circuit. I'm pooping round a friends garage midweek so I can put it up in the air and access it easier before I break out the soldering iron!!!

Have anyone noticed that the polo has the sharpest engine bay of any car on the market? I decided to give everything a good clean whilst I had the air cleaner box off as it is far easier to get at the back of the bay, and have discovered every clip/connector/pipe holder has a razor sharp edge!!!! Also I sliced my finger sevral times just roatating the radiator fan round to clean the thing!!!

I have to confess that I am a Volvo man, and this polo is one I'm selling, and I can't think of anything in the engine bay of my S40 thats out to draw blood. lol.

Many thanks for your help folks,

Rock on,
Steven

I get a bit grumpy about these plastic cable ties that are used everywhere - either they are left uncut and poke your eyes out or they are cut not flush with the grip on the cable tie - and slice your body parts off - craaaaaap workmanship from our Spanish friends!
