Engine Management & EPC Light

Post by Trim »

Just got my car back from borrowing it to a friend and it’s got the Engine Management & EPC Lights on.

Anyone know what this means as I haven’t got the manual to hand. The car seems to be driving as normal. Wondering if I can still drive the car as normal until I book it in to my local garage.

Regards,

thats what my sister inlaw had with her polo ran normally but the lights remained on till the sensor egr valve was removed and replaced.

next problem she had was the engine management light came on and this was the cam sensor that was at fault.

Well after a drive last night, the EPC has gone of & only the Engine Management is lit up. After looking at the website below seems like I’ve got a few of the symptoms so it could be the EGR Valve. I’ll get a Diagnostics done to tell for sure.

How much did the EGR Valve cost to replace?

Thanks for your help.

Yeah I wouldnt mind knowing that too.

My Engine Management light came on a couple of week ago. Plugged my mates laptop in and it came up as an EGR valve fault. I'm going to give it a clean 1st before replacing it, to see if that sorts it!

Got in the car last night and the Engine Management light has gone out now. Still going to get a Diagnostics to see what it was.

Thats a good idea. If it is the EGR Valve I''ll give it a clean before replacing it.

Mate, I think yours is a petrol? If so I don't think they have EGRs (as this is a diesel only)...so unlikely to be that on yours.

Yes, I have a Patrol. Didn't realise EGR Valve was only for Diesels.
The only other thing I think it could be is the Coilpack. But I'll soon find out.

Thanks.

Well the BBY 1.4 engine is a petrol engine and its got an EGR system - I'd expect most if not all modern petrol engines would have this to lower cold start emissions.

The EGR on the AUB and BBZ engines (1.4 petrols) are circa £98 from eurocar parts.

Mines been playing up for sometime, and while removing and cleaning it helped or a short term fix it has soon started playing up again. Juddering while accelerating, stalling intermittently and idling roughly too. I have actually blanked mine off on the exhaust side now after making up a small blanking plate, its transformed the car and it is 100% happier, all symptoms have gone and for the sake of an hour and £5 worth of materials I am £93 up :) happy days 8)

Got a Diagnostics test done today. Turns out it is the Brake Light Switch. Getting it replace in the next week or so. Hopefully this solves the problem.

Changed the Brake Light Switch, Bulbs and the Fuse yesterday… And by time I got home, the brake lights had stopped working again.

Any ideas anyone?
