A whine of some sort.. and it's not the gearbox..

Post by joe2612 »

Hi All,

After not driving my GTI for the past few days while i've installed my soundsystem, i now have a whine comeing from somewhere. It starts of high pitched on start up and then goes up and down as the engine revs. I have had the gearbox and cambelt changed within the last 12 months, and the noise isen't related to whether the clutch is in or if i' m in gear so thats why i've ruled the box out.

I'd be grateful if anyones got any ideas on what it could be or what to do next, cheers

Might sound obvious, but have you checked it isn't related to you installing your soundsystem? Like a faulty earth or some other wiring problem?

Thoguht of that, but the noise is definitely engine related. I.e picks up when aircon turned on and off and when revving. thought maybe a leaking inlet manifold or exhaust manifold etc. woulden't know how it would suddenly come on without me driving it..
