Clutch + reverse problems

Post by Jeffmaniac »

Hi

Have a problem that my 46,000 mile Y reg Gti has a really heavy clutch that always grinds whenever it goes into reverse but always seems worse after the car has done a few miles.

Also the clutch seems very heavy generally.

Pedal box was done under warranty a few years ago.

Any ideas? I am guessing a new clutch might be needed.

Any advice appreciated.

try greasing your cable up matey, as for the grinding going into reverse, put your clutch in and wait 2-3 seconds then engage reverse, as there is no syncromesh hence why it grinds! if it still grinds after doing that then it maybe your clutch on its way

Sounds exactly like the problems I had. I got a new clutch and it was happy days.

Huge thanks both.

Got a local garage near me who are great.

Seen to get a Sachs clutch so fingers crossed by baby will be as good as new soon!

Its also worth checking that the clutch cable once refitted is clipped properly into the clip bolted to the bulkhead... if its not cliped in properly then the clutch tends to feel a bit heavy and notchy
