600 mile tank!

600miles pish my friend try 912 in my 9n 1.4tdi kept the revs at 2000 where ever possible and was able to travel comfortably at 60 mph and the car gave 912 miles before the warning came on worked out at 78 miles to the gallon who needs blue motion technology with pram tyres when it can be done with 205's on. Should be able to squeeze some more out of her now she is on 73k and well ran in.

912 miles works out at way more than 78mpg. Aren't these tanks 45 litres and you'd never use the full whack unless you were either crazy or wanted all the sediment in your injectors? I filled back up with 42 litres which is around 66mpg. If you did 300 more miles you're talking about another 50% extra and about 99mpg. Something doesn't add up there.

Well maybe you should try filling your car up properely you will find that if you press the button in the filler neck it releases all the air in the tank and you will find you can fit in just over 60 litres in the tank. As for sediment in the injectors ask yourself what is the fuel filter for? I wonder. Is it to filter out the s**t that sometimes can be in the tank? The word filter is a BIG CLUE.

WHAT DOESN'T ADD UP IS THE FACT YOU ARE LOOKING AT 45 LITRES AND NOT 60 BIG DIFFERENCE MY FRIEND. I PUT IN JUST OVER 53 LITRES TO FILL UP ONCE THE LIGHT CAME ON.

I can get just over 100 miles when the light comes on. always run my car down till the light comes on sometimes more never had any problems whatso ever with injectors or idling or the power. The fuel filter does the job and they can easily last 60k miles before requiring to change them. Vw only give recommendations for when you should change filters. About the only filter that truly gets very dirty is the pollen filter.

i just did a big journey today and got 74.3 mpg (got a picture lol), that was doing 60mph in 6th gear about 1800rpm(?) for 2 hours. pretty boring but i had 40 miles in my tank, i got home with 15 (all going by the trip computer so nothing is set in stone.

Perfectly calm If you drive sensibly or boring as some would put it then these mileages per gallon will be acheived on holiday I am in no rush hence the 78mpg I normally get around 65 to and from work without trying.

If you can show me on the internet where the tank is quoted as 60 litres that would be a more helpful reply; basically you're saying I've still got 15 litres left when the range has been zero for the last ten miles. I think I'll trust my own gauge rather than risking another 150 miles when the range reads zero because "someone told me on a forum".

As for the fuel filter, each to their own. But I don't appreciate being patronised about what the word "filter" means.

Pot kettle and black springs to mind " show me where on the internet the tank is quoted as 60 litres" get a life.

I think both you and me along with everybody else knows that it isn't quoted anywhere as 60 litres but all tanks have a bigger capacity than what is listed also if you fill it right up to the brim ie the opening where you put the pump in to fill up you can get this amount in.

I ALWAYS vent the tank when filling up (press the button in the filler) and I also have never got anywhere near 60 litres in. Like David I only ever get 40ish litres, even when the tank is pretty low. I generally only ever do a few miles once the light has come on and only ever get it down to 20odd miles left on the range. I have only ever once got the range down to 0 and had to do a few more miles (just to get to a petrol station), but even then didnt get anywhere near 50litres, let along 60

In fact I filled up this morning. I put 34.99 litres in (I had about 80 miles left on the range, but I'll do that easy by tomorrow morning, and I like to fill up on my way to work ) and had to vent about 5 times for the last couple of pounds, so who knows how many times I'd have to vent to get another 20ish litres in )

600 mile tank is pretty dam inpressive tho. Think about 460 is the most Ive ever got. Usually average around mid 50's mpg on my trip, but that 460mile tank would have been from a couple of long slow easy driving journeys, getting around 60mpg probably.
