BBS Alloys Refurb

Post by Si_GTi »

Hi all

I've had a look through the "chassis" section of the forum but have decided to post here because this is a GTi-related issue (isn't it?).

Although I do my best to look after my bbs rims as much as possible, cleaning them twice a week, avoiding kerbs and parallel parking, etc, but sadly the previous owner wasn't so careful and I've got a fair bit of damage (IMO) to them. Some corrosion as described by other GTi owners, some damage from tyre fitters on the front wheels, and various chips/scuffs/marks.

So what I'd like to know is this: how much (per wheel) am I looking at for refurbishment (approximate costs), and does anyone know of any reputable companies offering such a service somewhere in the my region?? Preferably Telford, Wolverhampton, Cannock and such but could be persuaded to make the trip to Sheffield as it'd be worth it!

Many thanks,

Simon

I was quoted £90 for an outer rim polish on 2 BBS RXII alloys from a company based in Kent, can't remember the name at the mo though

They are likely to cost a lot more being split rims though as I found a lot of local refurb companies didn't want to actually split the rim as its quite easy to cause more damage apparently!

Mine are bad.. All 4 of them. So it means probably sending them to S&P and leaving my car on bricks for a week.

I've contacted 'spitandpolish' and I'm waiting for a return e-mail - depends on cost as to whether or not I get the wheels sorted though!

The alternative is a completely different set of alloys... any suggestions as to what suits the Polo? I've had a look through the member's rides section and I'm gonna play about with a bit of virtual tweakery. Ideally I want a set that will show off the red calipers 8)

Are 16"s and a spot of lowering the way to go? And will I need any arch mods with approx. a 35mm drop?

Bad news on spitandpolish then...

Cheers Jon, I've found the website for a10 and I'll try them. I like the idea of choosing a different finish for the wheels... maybe a dark chrome 8)

Just found out that Pristine in Milton Keens will charge £135 per wheel for a complete referb on both rims with a 3 day lead-time.
