Rear Brake Pad Renewal

Hi all

just a quick question. I have decided to fit my new rear brake pads then I come to the piston and dunno how to reset it ..... some places are telling me i need a VW special tool, and my haynes manual says i can jus use a common tool which I have to turn it.
However it seems to have no effect.

Am I able to just use a G-Clamp to press it back in?

I am fairly sure you need to twist and push..

go to halfords and buy a brake piston rewind tool... it slots in where the pads are... it locks onto the piston and then twists it whilst pressing it back in..

Take care not to damage the rubber seals and make sure you press it back in square so as not to jam it!

These pistons have to be rewound. You twist clockwise with firm pressure inwards and it will go back into the caliper fine. You will need to drain some brake fluid from the master cylinder out first unless you want it to overflow and go everywhere!

I went and got the tool but the piston was basically locked in place :/ I had to get a give it a little tap to be able to use the tool as there was not enough room, The pads where down to the last 1mm. But its night now and I just didnt have time to get to the other one so I'll have to sort that in the Morning lol.

I checked the one i did to make sure that the hammer hadnt damaged the piston it stops the wheel fine so all seems good with that.

The rear pistons are dead tight, I struggled when using a rewind tool. What I did was connected a pipe to either handle of the tool for more leverage, which once it got going was fine.
