no reverse

has any one got any ideas we just changed my mates cltuch on his 1.4 polo 6n2 put it all back together all went well until we went to reverse the car and it seems that reverse is the sam ea 1st but none of the linkage has moved at all so there is no reason for this at all we cant see any thing worng we even ahd a mate who work at vw look and he cant see any thing wrong either any ideas waht it can be

Have you checked the path under the shifter? Does it go into the reverse position on the gearstick?

Its quite possible you have knocked a linkage related item out of place - these cars with cable shift are incredibly precise on where the shift cables have to be set to.

Im presuming you have all other gears?

yer all other gears are there the gear stick goes into to reverse ive done these gearboxes before and they have all gone perfectly just can see why this one is being such a pain

Hmm i just looked at the workshop manual and all it points to is either misalignment of the gearstick, or a problem with the linkage. Its a very wierd problem.

It sounds as though the cable that moves the linkage left and right isnt moving far enough to select reverse.

yer thats what i thought just cnat under stand it goin to pop into to mr clutch sat and see if they know what it is annoying thing is its not even my car and its bugging me lol
