spoiler

Post by jon_poloV »

a rear spoiler is used to get better air flow over the rear of the car and is often used to lower the rear of the car thus making less wind resistance. also finishs off the toop of the boot nicely.

im sorry what is the car you drive?

But on a car like the polo, or Skoda Fabia which I own, it is not really needed as the car will not go fast enough to need the desired effect, rendering it a useless piece of plastic that in itself was not designed for downforce because again, the car will never go fast enough to need it.
If that was not the case the WRC cars would have a small spoiler, and not some big fcuk off one on the boot.
Athough I agree that some do look nice (mine for one, but then it came with it).

On another topic. did you know that almost every car on salle in the world has a better drag coefficient than an F1 car (small hatchbacks tend to have a cd of 0.33 whereas a F1 car has a cd of 0.9, the lower the number the better. This is partly down to the spoilers creating all the downforce that is needed to keep them on the ground (they create so much, the car could safely be driven upside down) and partly because of the exposed tyres).

A spoiler is only really asthetic on a small car (unless it's ridiculously high performance), no one actually thinks they can corner quicker with one on.

So it's all about how it looks.

I'm sure you've bought something once or twice because it looked good (in your opinion) whether it's clothes, car stuff, mobile phone, whatever. It's all the same point.

Couldn't agree more. As far as I can see there's two distinct camps:

1. 'Euro-look' - ie. smallish wheels (13"-15"s) smoothing/debadging and OE mods - my favourite look :D

2. 'Jap-look' - major scary stuff with big bodywork and graphics and stuff - looks especially scary when applied to Corsas  but better suited to, erm, jap motors :P

Its all about individuality at the end of the day though isn't it!

at the end of the day if you like the look of your car then thats what its all about. personal preference. some people like massive spoilers some like soubtle. they put a spoiler on the gti to give it a sporty look.

Try to give some friendly advice, and make comments about the usefullness of a spoiler on a shopping trolley with go faster stripes (like mine) and that is the witty reply. It is nice to see so much maturity here when all I was stating was fact, and mentioning that std spoilers looked ok. I wont bother replying to the totally original comment in any other way because it will make some people on this forum cry.
