Problems with the polo

Recently i've been having all sorts of trouble with the polo. The front near side seems to be the problem. I've replaced the spring, brake hub and wheel bearing.

and now...

1. the front near side is making a creaking when i go over bumps. and for example pulling up at traffic lights the car leans forward under breaking and when it rocks back it makes a creaking noise. the only thing i could think of was that the shocker needs replacing, does this sound right?

2. when i put the clutch pedal to down right to the floor it seems to be trying to pull slightly and makes a faint noise in the engine. as a result of this it is more difficult to select 1st and 2nd gear. does this mean my clutch is on the way out? the biting point hasnt moved i dont think either :/

In reply to your creaking front suspension, there are many known culprits - use "search" function and that should bring up TCA rear voided bushes - maybe even more, if they are u/s consider getting solid Seat Ibiza Cupra parts fitted to replace the bushes currently fitted. Did you change the top mounting and bearing when you replaced the springs?

Lucky I can't (yet) comment or help on your clutch issues.

What age is the car, mileage and engine?

Cant comment on the cluth, but sounds like the wishbone bush or TCA rear voided bushes as its also known. Replace with the Seat ones 6LL 407 183. They are solid and will last alot longer

Has any other suspension work, other than what you have listed, been carried out on this car in its life? If not then I'd suspect that the ARB must be due to have its plastic end stop crack and let the ARB slide from side to side and cause a loud knocking as the ARB hits off the aluminium consoles, also there is the chance that the ARBs droplinks also need replacing. But remember, depending on how long you have had this car, maybe the previous owner will have already had to sort these ARB problems out. If getting a garage to change your TCA rear bushes, then I'd get them to also check the ARB as if this job needs done later you will end up paying for a lot of same labour twice - I did and I did not enjoy that one bit!

More problems! Came back today and my dad had moved my car to get the other car out of the drive. I find out the front offside spring has snapped and the clutch is on its last legs. Taking it down to the garage tomorrow morning to get the clutch and spring replaced. Also have a look to find the creaking problem with the front near side. Expensive time for the Polo.

I think the car is getting to the point where its costing us too much and me and my dad think it may be time to sell and upgrade, still sticking to the polo roots..... Looking to purchase in june as i am 18 then. Any ideas? I'm thinking 1.4 16v 100bhp but parents think another 1.2 would do the job.

Bad time indeed, though in all fairness road springs do break a lot these days - even more so with the extra potholes this winter has created in many areas. I've forgotten what else you have had to replace, but maybe you should check the other spring and make sure that there are no rusty points - if so cover them with paint. In all fairness if you have not replaced the other front spring before, at that milage you should really get both replaced. Edit'd, I see that you have already sorted the other spring!

Still, with the clutch problem investigated and sorted and the springs replaced, your car should start working as it should!
