Electric Window Switch

Post by BobbyG »

Hi All,

I'm having trouble with my drivers side electric window switch (i.e. it doesn't work!).

The passenger window opens fine via it's own switch, however when using the drivers side, all I get is a "click" noise, but no movement, whilst the door lock/unlock master switch works fine.

Just to recap, neither windows can be operated from the drivers sidem, but the lock/unlock function is fine.

Anyone have an idea if I'm looking at a new switch or a new motor etc?

I am having similar problem at the moment, try turning off the heated rear screen and see if the passenger window opens from the drivers side.

Do the windows open from holding the key in the lock ??

Having the heated rear screen on has no impact, I'll try the key in the lock later! (didn't know it did this??!!)

swop the switches over, that way you can eliminate switch faults

I've already tried lifting the switch out, but struggled. Any tips?

stick a blunt knife under the switch panel from behind the handle, pushing towards the boot and then prize up with your fingers, thats how i do mine anyway

OK so tonight I've discovered that the windows DO function using the "key in lock" method.

I removed and dismantled all of the switches, gave them a good clean etc, however the problem remains that the window switches merely produce a clicking sound, but no movement. The central locking switch is fine.

I'm obviously ruling out the motor since the windows can be operated by the key.

Can I rule out faulty switches due to the audible click?

Am I more than likely looking at an issue with the wiring loom? :?

Cheers,

I've checked the wiring btween door & chassis and all seems fine.....

SO EITHER

There's a wiring problem behind the door card.

OR

There's something wrong with the switches.

The switches are well know for getting water in them when you have your window open in the rain.

Try swapping the switches over to see if it is definitely the switch or not.
