Boot-lid sensor not working.

Post by the_mini_mole »

Hey guys and gals,
The boot lid sensor on my GTi has stopped working, meaning that I don't get the warning light when its open, and when I open it the light doesn't come on, and of course the central locking doesn't recognise the fact that a door has been opened and the car re-locks itself. Is this just a loose connection somewhere? It was working sort of periodically, but now it seems to have stopped all together. Where should I start looking (apart from in the boot, lol)
Thanks

I have the same issue, I bet your boot light isn't working either???

Apparently the problem lies with the boot lock microswitch. I have the pleasure of locating this over the weekend, I'm guessing it's located around the boot lock somewhere, so taking the inside boot trim off is probably the way to get to it.

Can someone confirm this?

its in the same circuitry- its a three wire switch. The microswitch is on two wires, the luggage is on two wires (live and a ground, thought the ground is shared on both)

I've had a look at the boot locking mechanism behind the boot-lid trim and can't work out which bit needs replacing. To be fair the only way I would know is if the offending part had "boot lock microswitch" written on it!!!

Can anyone be more specific as to it's location, or even better provide a photo??!!!!

Cheers,

open the boot

remove the lock latch mehanism from the bootlid (two allen key/spline bolts depending on the build date)

the microswitch is what the wiring plug is connected to ;)

is it the microswitch if the boot light does not work (bulb changed and connectors under seats checked)?

Yes. Either that or the fuse.

I think I'm right in thinking that the fuse for the boot light is shared with that of the interior light, therefore if your interior light works, the problem lies with the microswitch.

I just need some light/time to get it sorted.....along with the earth for my electric window switch, and any other problems that my car throws at me between now and then! :D

Is the boot lock microswitch the same as the door lock microswitch as per the link?

The wiring for the boot light runs up the side under the pillar and door trims. the wiring under the seats is for the ABS sensors and fuel tank
