May have a problem

Post by kyle_mk3 »

my mk4 has oil coming out somewere when being driven..goes all over the nut and round about under the dipstick..been told this might be a loose rocker cover? also found a sort of rust coloured gunk under the oil cap but been told this is just a bit of water mixin with oil n caising condensation??

any advice is appreciated, cheers

The brown gunk on your Oil cap is a result of mix of water mixing with the oil which isn't good. Most likely your headgaskets on the way out.

Oil would most likely be leaking because the crank case breather is blocked up -its the pipe that runs from the back of the block into the airbox on the left hand side. Disconnect it from the airbox, and see if you can feel air coming out of it when the engine is running - if not, its blocked and will need cleaning with carb cleaner or similar to dissolve it.
