Emissions light on dash
Emissions light on dash
Hi I've had the emmisions light illuminated on the dash for a while now and think it's time to get it checked. Just wondering if this vagcom will fit my car, it's a 2002 1.4 16v many thanks! >>> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

Re: Emissions light on dash
Best to get the Gendan one, it's recommended on here and a similar price.
Re: Emissions light on dash
Thanks a lot mate I have one on order. May sounds like a stupid question but where abouts do I plug it in? I know on a 6n2 it's behind the ash try but not sure on a 9n. Thanks again eddie.
Re: Emissions light on dash
Really easy, Look under ur steering wheel to the right, (basically where your right knee is)

Re: Emissions light on dash
The "con" for this item, is the comment "not for CAN" - that will mean it might not cover all the controllers listed in your particular car - and be less useful for newer cars. The "pro" for this item is the fact that it can look at all the cars controllers, whereas the Gendan one can only look at ENGINE + AUTOTRANS + SRS + ABS. Now, what I would worry about this item would be, "is there any support for covering future VAG controller changes" - I'd doubt it.Eddie9n wrote:Hi I've had the emmisions light illuminated on the dash for a while now and think it's time to get it checked. It does, on the face of it, look like a good buy if and only if it covered CAN enabled controllers and you had access to future updates.
So, unfortunately, as said by an earlier reply "Best to get the Gendan one, it's recommended on here and a similar price."
A note for the future, all cars launched after lets say 2000 are required to place their diagnostic socket within 2 or 3 feet of the steering wheel - which means that while you are sitting in the driver's seat, you should be able to reach it - which cuts down the "where is it? zone" - if you are ever in doubt for helping out some one elses car, just visit the VAG COM site - ie www.rosstech.com and somewhere in there will be kept an up to date list of DLC socket locations in VAG cars. If I'm right and you have bought the Gendan VAG scan tool, then maybe, before it turns up, trawl the internet for a "good" and complete listing of VAG fault codes - as that might give you even more codes than comes with the scan tool - I found that the first two times that I used this tool that I needed to look further for a better fault code listing - but I found one easily enough - it was just a bit disappointing and embarassing though - avoidable!
Re: Emissions light on dash
Got the Gendan kit plugged in to the car today, and the only fault that came back was: exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) - flow excessive. Should I be worried? Do you think it sounds expencive? Many thanks!

Re: Emissions light on dash
sounds like you might have a sticky valve in your EGR - meas that too much exhaust gas is going into your engine.
Are you noticing lots of soot and bad economy?

Re: Emissions light on dash
Thanks for the fast reply! No I'm not noticing either of those things. Do you think it's an easy fix? Thanks

Re: Emissions light on dash

If you don't find a guide to EGR valve removing>cleaning>refitting on this forum, maybe wander across to www.briskoda.net and/or www.seatcupra.net (Fabia and Ibiza sections respectively) - or on the general forum "how to do" areas, as it MUST have been covered on one or some of these forums already (I've not needed this info - yet!)
