MOT Time - Polo 9N 1.4 16v Auto

Have my Mother's Polo booked into Wayside VW for its second MOT this coming weekend.

Will run it through VAG-COM myself in the next day or so just to be sure there are no hidden faults/issues that need to be brought to the Dealers' attention I have every confidence it shall pass - so we'll see how reliable it is after 5 years and circa 35K miles

But my real motivation for posting was that altho' Dealerships around BUCKS/BEDS/NORTHANTS are running circa £40 MOT offers, Wayside MK are not. They will still charge the full statutory fee (£54); however if you ask them to reconsider their price in light of what nearby Dealerships are charging, they will move down to £40.

Do wonder what cost of VW Named Component Warranty will be this year...

Popped into VW MK to confirm MOT for tomorrow - knowing their incompetence previously at ballsing up even the simplest of tasks Good job really, as the conversation didn't start well.

Firstly they weren't aware the car was booked in for a Saturday MOT (no paperwork found). Thankfully the Service Advisor who made the booking remembered it and confirmed 'it was on the Computer' but no-one could find the paperwork. After a few minutes scrabbling they found it, but then realised that no MOTs were booked for Saturday as the Tester's were off sick/on holiday/had no cover.

Now bear in mind that I booked this almost 10 days ago and if true, no-one had the courtesy to call and let me know. Anyhoo I think it was the face I pulled that they then went away to double-check and found that the absences were not this weekend, but next

VW in high wycombe for MOTs was absolutely shocking! They failed mine on a "jammed" seatbelt that took me 10 seconds to fix. I went back and they took an HOUR AND A HALF to retest it, without warning me it was taking this long (you can't put it through quickly now, as it's all computerised).

I'm afraid that I also use VW dealer for MOTs on a 9 year old Passat V6 4Motion and a 7 year old Polo 1.4, it came as a shock when they handed the bill for an MOT back in May last year as it was at discounted price - and no one ever mentioned that ! Same again in September, that is quite good, my VX dealer used to be the same and operated extended hours which meant that I always used them for my old Cav GSI 4X4 and my wife's Fiesta 1.6Si - I only fell out with them once "needed to replace number plate lamp as it was out" I replied, "that's strange as I replaced it a couple of weeks ago and checked it before handing the keys in today!" - now I know that it could quite easily have failed again, but just made that comment as it was the truth - they did not charge for the bulb - as I went out I checked the rear bumper which was quite dirty and there were no hand prints of someone changing the bulb as there should have been - so it looked like they had "tried it on" the wrong car that day!

My only problem that I have had with MOTs at my local dealer, was that for a while they had been swallowed up by Benfield - who might just be the "Uncle Arnolds" of Tyneside - anyway, for once I booked the car in by phone using their advertised number (a low call number), they took a timed booking and when I went to my local dealer they declared that they have never ever accepted timed bookings for MOTs - I was a bit annoyed but it turns out that I was talking to Benfield not local dealer that they owned. Glad to report that VW served Benfield up with a ultimatim - "sell off your Edinburgh dealer or we will come and get you" so it went on the market and with its now newly aquired tarnished name curtousy of Benfield, there were no taker, so a local VW dealer added them to their operations. Its not too good when your dealer gets wrecked by bandits and you know in your heart that the people working there are just as good as they have always been, I and I'm sure lots of other local customers know them still by their previous but one name and treat and trust them for what they were and are back to being now.

Car passed, no issues, £40 all in and couldn't be happier

Renewal quote came through for the 'Named Component' Warranty and it is £319 (15K miles). How on earth can they justify this cost when BMWs warranty extension on an E90 330d - that has infinitely more equipment and complexity - is about the same cost I mean WTF ?!

In terms of coverage, they now no longer cover simple things like central locking failure or factory installed radio/Nav unit either. There are some other important things they have left off too - this makes me

Prices are non-negotiable, you cannot remove roadside assistance cover and the list of items not covered just shows that either VW or the Warranty provider do not have confidence in their cars after Year 4. Despite everything I'm tempted to renew this year because we have had extreme weather conditions - and should this have any impact on the cars ECU/Auto Box/ABS/Engine then it would cost £££ to repair. I am also minded that the warranty at this level has a £1k claims limit (incl. VAT) which means that if the Auto Box goes...then it will cost much more than the £1K claims limit.

I am beginning to question if VW actually want to cover cars 4 Years+ ...
