Light's Question

Post by Dub-Ninja »

Hey guys.
I've got my MOT comin' up in a months time, and I thought I'd do the odd little thing myself to pass it.
I've noticed that when my lights are on, my left rear light illuminates at normal brightness but my right one - which I recently replaced because it was dead - is a lot dimmer. I bought a brand new bulb, put it in. It worked fine for the first few days, now it's dim. Then I changed it for a used bulb, which didn't help either. My friend pushed it into the socket as hard as he could and it only got a TIIIIIIIINY bit brighter.
Any idea?
And also... one of my number plate lights has gone. How do I replace that?
Thanks in advance :)

numberplate light just pops out using a flat screw driver

as for the tail light you should check the wiring, also may be a bad earth

as said the plate light pops out, be careful not to mess the bumper up though tricky ;)

ive noticed this on a few polos, think its the actual wiring into the light unit itself, as mine did this on my first polo, i then changed them for 6n2 styl, ie had to chop wires etc and both were fine then
even when i drive about you see some polos with the odd dimmer light, think its cause its an old car and the wiring should technically be updated :P

but anywho hope you get this solved

Thought I'd update you guys, even though you probably couldn't care less.
It turns out, the light was dim because it was 24 volts rather than 12 volts.
The 24 volts go dim.
Polo's are supposed to be on 12 volt rear light bulbs.
Still haven't managed to sort the bumper out.
It's a pain in the rear end.
I just can't pop the damn light out!

with your rear reg light, if u still having problems, then it might be a bugger but u could take the bumper off doesnt take tht long, coupl of scews in the arches and a few under the valance and where the boot closes
but if you slide the screwdriver down the side of the light itself and twist it to pop the light up a bit then repeat but further down the light it should come out, shouldnt be tht hard
ive done it a few times as ive had 2 polos and mates got an arosa with same style

good luck anyway
and never new tht about the 12 and 24 volts thing with the lights, how you fix it then, a transformer?
