DBW Aka EPC. How to tell

Post by woter324 »

Once and for all, how to tell. Electronic Power Control (EPC) is VW's name for DBW.

To tell, all you have to do is look at the accelerator pedal, and you will see a little plug comming off the top of the accelerator bracket (RHS). If I knew how to put pictures on here, I'd send you one of it from the manual.

If you want to be doubley sure, unplug it (Tricky!!). Turn the engine on and put your foot on the gas. Nothing happens, then you have DBW. I say this because none DBW may still have a similar plug for whatever reason, but the cable wouldn't be visible wihtout removing the whole thing!!!

Thanks for the help in this matter.

You'll have everyone on their hands and knees this evening getting all grubby with their heads under their pedals.

Good find BTW.

Brake + Accl DBW trick

Post by woter324 »

Driving home from work, i tried the break + Accl trick to test for DBW where the brake peddal cancels out the accelerator, and yes it does work, however you have to hold the break peddel down slightly for a few seconds for it to work. (for me anyway) If this is not a fault on my car, then the whole pupose as it is a safety feature then surely it should be instant?

Thanks
