ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Hey all
This morning started the car it beeped and the ABS light stayed on with the handbrake light flashing. Brakes still work fine. Any ideas what this could be?
Thanks

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
It means your ABS controller cannot be contacted. Check the fuses on top of the battery.
Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
What he said...
Plus... check your brake fluid level...
Does the handbrake lever change the handbrake warning light when you raise/lower it.. IE.. is the handbrake switch functioning ok?
Where abouts are you located?...(perhaps put a location in your signature!!!)

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
I had exactly this the other day - happened when the ABS controller was disconnected from the loom lol.

handbrake light does not change. Keeps flashing even when on. Switch was fine before. The two are definatly related.tegwin wrote:What he said...

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
ABS Controller is the silver/black item below the coolant bottle with all the pipes going into it
As already said, take all the fuses on top of the battery out, and sand the connections with some wetndry or a wire brush and see what happens.

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
I was thinking of getting this to help diagnose the problem
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAG-COM-USB-KKL-4 ... 45f12160d4
Anyone know if this is the correct cable? if not can anyone direct me to the correct cable for a w reg 6n2 GTI.
Thanks

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Yes thats correct
I can tell you now the fault will be No Power to ABS Data Bus as thats what the two lights on the dash mean.

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Alex how did you solve your problem, simply by sanding the fuses ontop of the battery? Surely it can't be that simple!

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Indeed - it really is that simple! They get wet, corrode and a bad connection starts then it just gets worse!
Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Wish i knew this when i had my MK5 GTi. Ended up taking it to a garage who charged a shed load of money trying to diagnose the fault when job to fix took 5 minutes!!!

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
always the way unfortunately
Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Alex, I tried what you said and it didn't work! Any other ideas.
I'm thinking this could be related to my new Headunit.
I fitted a new Headunit and speakers, when I cranked up the volume on the speakers the speakers would crackle and pop and then the HU would cut out. I went to a local fitter and he said the problem was a dodgy ignition so he basically hardwired the HU to the battery, that was last saturday and the ABS problem happened on monday. Do you think the two could be related?

Re: ABS Light + Handbrake Light Flashing
Hmm he might have disturbed some wiring somewhere. Have you checked the internal fuses?
