Door Problem!

Hi guys and gals- just recently I have been unable to get into my Drivers door- it goes like this:
1: Unlock with fob, everything sounds as normal and all the doors seem to unlock.
2: Pull door handle- nothing happens, no click, nothing at all- the handle just goes to the end of its travel.
3: Repeat step 2, about 8 or 9 times, eventually I win and the door opens (at the moment)
This is a bit of a PITA to day the least! What's going on? I guess the pin the locks it isn't sliding back or something similar?
Related (I guess) is the fact that for about the past 2 months the door will only open on the second pull of the handle, seeing as this is what seems to be happening, just worse.
I recently had to crimp two wires back together in the door harness as they had broken from 10 years of opening and shutting, I wonder weather another cable has gone?

hmmm sounds realted to the door lock mechanism itself- my one used to leak air which was a complete arse. I have a spare drivers door lock mechanism lieing around, about 3 months old from vw, if you need it them give us a pm

Ok, so Ive just been out to have a look and I *think* it could be an electrical problem- When I unlock the car with the remote fob I get the problem as decribed above (although spraying some WD40 onto the mechanism seemed to help a bit- I only have to pull a couple of times) however when I use the key in the lock it only unlocks the drivers door and the alarm light in the lock keeps flashing. I will have a look at the wiring loom in the door tomorrow when its a bit lighter and report back!

Bump! Any ideas anyone? I have had a look at the wiring loom form the door and couldn't see any obviously broken wires...
