Hi all,
Just a quick question regarding the replacement of front and back springs.
Quick low down. Yesterday i was just outside a mates house then i heard a thud. Thought somthing had hit my car as the alarm went off. Checked it nothing wrong as i could see. Driving back home i noticed a strange clunking noise comming from my car.
Jacked the car up today, had a look and found half a coil of my front spring had sheared off!.
So, how easy/hard is it to replace the srpings? And what type would you recomend. Baring in mind im not reallt looking to lower the car too much, 30 - 35mm
Any help would be great.

I've just done it on mine. You need spring compressors to take the originals off and you can often find the strut has seized into the clamp near the hub.
It's a pain of a job to be honest unless you've done it before and nothing is seized.

A friend is going to help. Used to be a RAC mechanic, so we have the spring compressors etc.
Would it be possible to drive to get the repair done? The spring has not broken in two. Just one coil of the spring came of and the spring went back into the cup.

As long as the new end of the spring stays in the cup and the car has not dropped too far, I'd reckon that its almost safe enough to drive slowly. When mine went the spring went at exactly half height so I could not even drive the car up our driveway - thought "what has happened?", drove back into garage - opened bonnet - thought "don't remember the front of the car being that low!" - the penny dropped - jumped into the Passat and left Polo for "later"!dswarm wrote:A friend is going to help. That turned out to be a very simple job that turned nasty due to lots of rusted up nyloc nuts etc!
