Ahhhh insurance!!!

Post by Callum645 »

My insurance renewal is coming up this april and all year i have been saying to myself i will treat myself to a nice 6n polo gti, as by this time i will have two years driving experience and 2 years no claims!
Just done a quick quote to see what roughly it was (expecting around a grand) and the cheapest i get was 1900!!!!!

What the hell.. surely it should be lower than that?

Would just like to know if anyone is 19 and owns a gti, what are you paying?

This really seems steep!

Your help would be much appreciated, cheers.

Go To Admiral/bell/elephant, also stick your rents on the policy ( if they have no claims etc), play around with the excess and see the price tumble....

Insurance is going up annually, tis stupid, at 19, with 2 years claim free on my parents, but no NCB, I got insured for about £900 with admiral, that was 2 years ago though and only gone down a few hundred even though I'm older etc.

For a 19 year old with 2 years NCB I would say £1600-1900 is about right on a GTI.

I didnt get my GTI until I was 20 but it cost me £1300 the 1st year and that was with 3 years NCB. (In my own name).

You might be able to get 1 maybe 2 hundered knocked off but its going to be expensive either way mate.

Agree, I was after a GTI but the insurace was over £1000 (under my dad's name with max NCB) which I could not afford and that was when I was 20.

Every year I look around to try and get a better deal, but no-one ever seems to be able to beat Elephant for me. As joe2612 says, put a parent on the policy as a named driver and try all posible combinations. I have my Mum as a named driver on my policy but not my Dad, this worked out the cheapest for some reason, cheaper than having both on the policy. Also, use an accurate figure for the amount of miles you do, make sure you don't over estimate the milage you will be doing.

Ah Admiral have saved my bacon last year! I tried Adrian flux last week, and they wouldent even touch me! play around with your excess aswell- i whack mine up to 1000 ish , bit of a risk i know, but when i had my accident last year i bought the car back from Admiral and sold the parts and made 1300 ish, 300 more than the excess 8)

Another annoying thing is that my renewal quote went up 300 in 2 weeks
