Quick headlight Q

Post by ben3486 »

I was trying to adjust my headlights as they were far too high. I was using an allan key in the top and on the pass side the allan key just spins and spins and does nothing. I think the teeth or what ever of the plastic screw have had it and hence not adjust the light. is there any other way i can adjust them?

Also the auto level bit??? how do i know thats working? are the lights supposed to move up when yo first turn them on or some thing??? or will the auto level be knackered too if the plastic adjusting screw is broken?

It sounds as though the adjuster has snapped mate - its not easily repaired either, and if it does get repaired, it often doesnt last - maybe time for a new hdalight!

The auto level bit adjusts as you drive and its load dependent. That is totally seperate to the main levelling gear. You cant really check its working unless you have a copy of vagcom thats registered so you can run the diagnostic sequences.

does the auto level bit play up often or is it pretty reliable? im not sure its working to be fair as when i have a boot full of junk i get flashed occasionally lol....ah well least i can see far in the dark lol.

how mch are headlights going for at min?

and guessing i can still have them adjusted via vagcom even though the plastic screw is broke?

Generally perfectly reliable. It sounds as though the adjuster ball has popped out of its socket. Often happens - pop the back off and have a look. Getting it back in is very fiddly tho as it has to slid in - if you push it, it will break.

Nope mate - if the screw is broken, adjustment isnt possible. The vagcom adjustment is just to get them to their home position before adjusting to ensure its correclt adjusted

Headlights are (at trade price) £180 per side ex vat excluding all bulbs and the ballast.
