Front Indicator fitting?

Post by mboyle4 »

Hi, I decided to buy a new set of front indicators as mine had a bit of grime in them that seemed impossible to get to and clean. Just wondering if there is a how to guide on how to fit the indicators, thanks.

You dont need a guide for this.

Open bonnet, pull up the black stalk close to the wing, slide out the indicator module, remove the connector, place on new module and refit.

sub 10 mins job

It shows it in my haynes manual actually aswell but thanks for getting back to me mate, thought it may have been a complex job as sometimes the most simple things turn out to be.

Just be very careful when re-fitting them as those plastic clips are very easy to brake if your not careful.
Very easy job as mentioned above and should be done in 5 minutes.

Agreed, the plastic tabs will break if stressed even slightly. I now have a piece of string holding one in place 8)

Good old string 8)

I have changed both of mine in the last 6 months and because they had been on the car for 10 years the plastic had become very brittle (probably because its exposed to heat) and I literally destroyed one of them trying to put it back in, all three tabs just broke away with ease.

Out of interest how much did the indicators cost you?

If memory serves they were £27.00 + VAT new from Volkswagen.

I will try to dig out the invoice when I get back from work but I am pretty sure it was £27 + VAT.

You can get replica's off ebay for around £10-15 but they never tend to be as good as the OEM parts.

Cheers Ben. :)

Is that for both? Or just for one?

If it's for both then that's a fair decent price IMO.

No worries Emma :)

Unfortunately that price is just for one and not the set.

They might do you a better a price if you go for both but I ordered mine a few months apart so paid the standard price.

Are yours damaged? or just looking a little tatty with age?

Just looking tatty. I've been meaning to replace them for months, but other things have popped up.

I did comtemplate buying them off eBay, but as you've said, they won't be as good.

I changed the drivers side because it was severly cracked and I damaged the passenger side cluster when I was upgrading my sidelights.

I had good reason to change them I guess, but I would of done it eventually anyway because they were tatty and looked a bit moldy inside.

Certainly worth changing because the front of the car looks much better with clean headlights & indicators.

Its the same with the foglights, they can get filthy inside and the glass becomes hazed over the years.
