Hi all, been in and out of this forum a while now but never actually posted anything.....so here you go! Thought I would share pics of my pride and joy.

Very much standard at the moment, no big plans -perhaps change the wheels when I have some spare cash but overall I like it just the way it is. Always wanted a GTI ever since I can remember, my first car was a mk3 polo and to be honest I have never looked back since!

I brought it off an elderly couple a year ago, the guy had brought it for his wife who wanted something smaller - best buy of my life, the have really looked after it.

















Also got my hands on two VW driver mags - fancied reading a review on the GTI, i think its a great car, I mean performance, looks and goodies it has it all!!
Overall a very good read and the review was very complimentary to the Polo GTI plus my car was on the front (same colour anyway!)

So there you go, please excuse the quality the photos were only taken with a little digital camera so nothing special. No plans at the moment, just about to replace my front and side indicators, they have slight mould growth around the edges (tried everything to get it off but no luck) so I though it would be easier to buy a new set.

Car looks immaculate mate, im guessing its low mileage? Ive also got that magazine and two others from 1999/2000 with reviews of the gti, got them all off ebay. Ive just replaced my front and side indicators for the exact same reason. The front ones are of a poor design as they allow dirt and water to get in from the side and theres not a great deal you can do.

I purchased the magazines from ebay - took me a while to get them but they eventually popped up! not bad for 99p per mag

I clean it every weekend i cant stand driving a dirty car used meguiars tech wax for the first time in the later pictures and I must admit I was rather impressed with the results - nice deep shine.

Indeed, I have read a few posts where mould seems to be an issue in the front indicators- I should have my new set in the post soon so should tidy the front up nicely along with some new crystal side repeaters.

Things I would like to do include:

Aero wipers -front and rear
New GTI badges front and rear (red 'I' seems to have faded slightly on both)
Considering a BMC induction kit -again these seem to be popular and are highly regarded from what I have read
new stubby aerial

Wheels wise I would ideally like some 16" RXII's like Alex has on here - they look so nice....or some BBS LM's which I also like and think would compliment the car well. Also toying with the idea of Borbet A's - but I cant decide whether I like them
The standard wheels I have on now are suffering from the usual corroding and laquer peel - quotes for refurbing have ranged from £400 - 500 is that about right??? seems a lot!

Your polo looks mint! I wouldn't pay £400 for your wheels refurbed though. Do it yourself!

As mentioned before your car looks like a very well looked after example.I too bought mine off an elderly couple,it definately shows in signs of respect.Looks like you've done well with your one too.Your plans seem good too,these cars really do only need few minor changes to make a superb little car.Im going to keep my eyes out for the magazine too haha.Does it mention an official weight in the review?.

Looks really nice mate, wish i had got a red one always look so nice when there clean!!

Can reccomend the BMC, lovely noise when the revs hit about 3000!

Everyone one on here's wicked for advice and help, always steer me in the right direction!

Im in the same boat with the wheels, going to attempt to refurb the wheels myself next month, fingers crossed!

Thanks! To be honest I would'nt know where to start in regards to refurbing them myself

I think keeping it simple is the key with these, they look so good as they are The unladen weight (based on 2-door GTI in the review) is 2227lb, 1010kg

I think £400-500 is very expensive for a refurb mate, I know there not bbs but the 16" dotz mugello alloys I fitted to my gti are considerably cheaper than that and suit the car just as well as the originals if not better (thats my opinion ofcourse but a lot of people have said that to me also). Each to their own ofcourse but I wouldn't spend that on a refurb.

Thanks dude,ive read mixed weights on the cars but the handbook states 1010kg as you say glad ive found that out.

Thats alot of money for a refurb if im honest i would be looking to pay £60-£70 in my local area for a full will refurb including new valves and rebalancing.

Where are you located?.

You can buy these 16" dotz mugello's brand new and have them fitted for less than £300...... I agree with the above statement a decent wheel refurb is usually between £50-£70 a wheel but as the bbs are a split rim it may be considerably more?

Wheel refurb wise, i'd do it yourself. Would be a weekend or so work and you can achieve pretty good results if you take your time and make sure the preparation is spot on.. Give us a shout with your email addy if you need the DIY wheel refurb guide that was/is on the forum somehwere.. or give any of us a shout if you have any troubles, great bunch of guys here who enjoy abit of problem solving

Cheers mate, I have been reading a few guides I have managed to find on the net - seems like a lot of work!!!!!!!!! Although I might actually give it a go when I have some time off, worse comes to worse if im not happy with the results I guess I canstill get them done professionally.

I am after some new gti badges too, my red i's have gone pink.

I also like you wanted to keep mine standard, but after months & years of looking round this website you can't resist the temptation of lowering and new rims, Makes them look sooooo good. It's taken me 18months of browsing to buy coilovers! will prob take me another 6months to get some new wheels, I really want BBS RM's but they £xpensive as hell.

Cheapest way to sort your red I's out is to get some red pinstripe tape from halfords its about £3 take the old faded tape out of the badge and replace with the pinstripe tape, quick, easy, cheap fix and looks completely original!
