Is the "stubby" passenger side mirror standard on the GTi?

Yep, all drivers side mirrors are larger to incorporate a bigger blind spot as the polo was designed for females... better drivers apparently? :D

Thats interesting, I never knew that :)

Mine has double stubbies so I pressume the Women who originally owned my car had an accident and damaged the original drivers side mirror

It's a common mod as double stubbies are more desirable, iirc, LHD cars are the opposite way around (stubbie on the right, whilst ours is on the left) Maybe your last owner did that?

Everyone calls my car Nemo (one fin smaller than the other  )

Ha, Nemo is an awesome name! And yep polo's were designed for women :)
FAQ - Common Modifications and Advice
Stubby Driver's Side Mirror
Polos were originally designed for females (:O) so they incorporated a large blind spot section in the mirror. A common modification is to purchase a LHD or a Lupo Mirror. Best way is to purchase one from German Ebay, expect to pay about 38 pounds. This will then also need to be resprayed in the car colour/other colour.
Some polo's came from the factory with two stubby mirrors.

My car was completely standard when I bought it nearly 2 years ago with 1 lady owner from new so I dont think she would of changed the mirror for another stubby. Perhaps it came with two stubbies as standard like Emma mentioned?

Mine is a very early Gti on a V plate and I know alot of the early one's didnt even have front or rear "GTI" badges so it could be that it had 2 stubbies as standard

I think it must be common of German cars as opposed to being designed for women.

My Dad's old E-Class Merc had a stubby mirror, and they sure as hell aint specifically designed for women!

I swapped over for a stubby on my driver's mirror, its not too tough to switch them over. Will be going back to the original one at some point soon though (going back to standard on a number of parts ahead of potential sale).
