Gutted :(

Would paint correction with a machine polisher get it back to how it was? or are you looking for a re-spray?

Ive tried my machine polisher and it doesnt work - its under the lacquer. Probably a partial respray later in the year.

I have a similar problem on my roof & bonnet.
I had it detailed but if anything it made them worse and the paint defects are now more visual.

I am planning on getting a full re-spray next year.

Exhaust fixed. Moved it across and forward, and it no longer makes horrible rattling noises yay :)

I think the squeak was related, so hopefully its fixed that too...oh well time will tell!

In other news, my car is definitely faster than Saxo VTRs, even with weight in the boot, so im pleased about that lol :P

Next on the list.....new tyres as the front outside edges are bald!

The Polo GTi has always been faster than the Saxo VTR.

It's the VTS you want to watch out for..

Good luck, they're a second quicker off the mark to 60. and that would take into account the VVT of the Polo, it'll probably be gone by the time that kicks in!

You should mop the floor with VTR's no problem, as Tim mentioned its the VTS Saxo's which are the really quick one's.

They have just over 128 bhp per tonne compared to the Polo's 115 bhp so they are a fair bit quicker than a GTI as standard.

If you running 140BHP in your GTI then it should be neck & neck as you would nearly have 130BHP per tonne :D
Achieving that figure normally requires a performance exhaust & manifold, Induction Kit, Custom Re-map etc

Re: The GTI! - Alex's Progress Thread - New Tyres Ordered :)

Post by alexperkins »

Seeing as im down to the tread limit on the fronts and not far off on the back, new tyres all round have been ordered :)

Continental Sport Contact II's at a cost I dare not think of! Hopefully they will serve me well. Dad runs them on his merc and they last 20k or so a time which isnt half bad.

Getting fitted next Friday.

Oh yes...forgot to add!

Got some sound deadening sheets similar to dynamat today for the front doors/boot depending on whats vibrating, and an almost new GTI badge for the front grille to spruce things up a little.

Also, working on a little idea which hopefully will be in action next week :) More details to follow...

Alex would you mind giving me a linky to the sound deadening sheets you've ordered?

Well update time :)

Had the new tyres fitted today - boy are they grippy! The old toyos were bald on the inside edges, so I got them to check the tracking and its 5mm out on the front!

They proceeded to attempt to undo the tie rod bolts to adjust the tracking, and they are completely seized tight. Took the car to the local welders who helped me sort the bolt issue last time when trying to remove the wishbone. They heated it up, and managed to get one of the nuts undone, but the tie rod itself is seized in the end.

Basically, if you heat up the tie rod end, due to the balljoint being nylon, itll just melt and therefore ruin the end. So I've had to order two new ends, lock nuts and self locking nuts for the ends for tomorrow, and am gonna have to get them replaced. On the upside it should reduce any play there is in the steering, but its a pain in the ass having to get things fixed all the time!
