I keep getting different advice from shops but VW told me 5w40
What do you use as I have been using 5w30
what engin oil?

I've always used 10w40 Syntha Silver ever since I bought my GTI.
My local VW dealer told me to us 5w40 Syntha Silver last month, so that's what I use now.

Yeah 5W40 & 10W40 Grades are both suitable for the GTI.
Most people opt for the 10W40 but as Emma mentioned, even VW are using the 5W40 these days so you wont have any issues with either grade.

I am finding it annoying!!!
I am gonna go with VW as they should no best BUT why are all other motor trade shops got 5w30 in there book?
So the £40 I spent on castrol is wasted!!!! I'm not gonna waste it tho.......any one fancy a pint? More expensive than champange!!!
