Re: is 130000 miles on the clock way to much
I would not touch a petrol car with that unless the cambelt had been changed under 120000 miles. Full history helps.
I got a 306 TDi with 127,000 and that had no problems. I was lucky.
Remember, you get what you pay for.

so you think 130000 miles means avoid then?
Re: is 130000 miles on the clock way to much
I wouldn't say avoid it. Its more important that the cars got things like service history, receipts etc.live1 wrote:so you think 130000 miles means avoid then?
If the cars been looked after well then its not a huge problem, you could buy a car that's done 60,000 but if its been ragged around and never serviced its likely to be in a worse mechanical state that a loved 130,000 one! Check that the cambelts been changed and also take it for a test drive.
There are no guarantees with buying a car but if you buy it from a dealer (im guessing so because you said "show room") you have more rights and a bit more safety than buying privately.

3 of the best car's I've ever owned were over 130k
Look for a good service history and you can always tell if a cars been looked after.
Make sure there are no funny sounds, smoke, rattles from the engine or pull/play/knocks in the steering and suspension.
I always see it as: high mileage cars are cheaper to buy, so spend the extra cash changing things like brakes, bushes, suspension etc so at least you know they are all good and it'll probably be better than a lower mileage car with all the original stuff still on.
As long as a cars been looked after and the necessary parts replaced as and when a car will last forever!
Plus... If it's not been used its been sat there rusting.. To a degree.

Agree with the guys above.
My GTi has 103k on the clock. but its been looked after loads by all its owners. a super super full service history. and it runs fantastically. really had no problems at all.
whereas I know someone whos just got a 6n2 SE as her first car. she spent £3000 on it as its in imaculate condition inside and out and only had 60k on the clock. however is givin her nothing but trouble. lights keep coming up on the dash, as soon as she fixes one another comes up. and recently myboyfriend went to give a jump start and he realised the gearbox rattles like a b****.
also my boyfriend just said that another mate used to have a GTi with just 50k on the clock. but a 5year gap in the service history. when her boyfriend drove my gti (my boyfreidns at the time) he said is felt completely different. faster. smoother. generally better.
so yeah in my opinion miles dont matter. its how the cars been looked after
