Wierd noise from glovebox area -ticking..whirring

I have an extremely wierd noise coming from the passenger side (glovebox area) of my gti. Its a loud deep ticking sound and every so often it gets faster and starts whirring

Anyone know what it is, and what it could be? Whats located by the glovebox area that would make such a noise?

Turn off your aircon/blower and see if it goes away Thats whats behind there

Aircon /blower have been completely off matey!

can you get a recording of the noise? And is it there with ingition on, or does the engine have to be running

I'll try and get a recording tomorrow. The noise is most noticable when the car is running and stationary, turn the engine off with the key still in the ignition and its still there... also forgot to mention this happens occasionally and not all the time!

Its really strange as in when it does happen its starts ticking for approx 20-30 secs then its sounds like its coming to a loop and starts whirring then stops for a while

It sounds like that air recirculation thing? Mind you, mine only makes whirring noise for about 5 seconds, starts to loop, then stops. Maybe its broken?

Pants...thats does'nt sound good - any idea how to fix or how much to replace?

Don't count on me though man, i'm just saying thats what i sounds like. I don't know how much it'd be, but it only means it recirculates the air thats already in the car, rather than drawing in cold air from outside (or hot, if the heaters are on).

So, if you don't use it, don't fix it? Haha.

My car makes a ticking noise that changes speed as well.... Vag-com shows up the air re-circ flap motor as faulty... I put the noise down to that... Apparently they are prone to failing... and are costly to replace... I have not bothered!
